Wolfy's Story
Wolfy is cat #1 from what became a 100 cat rescue in 2025. South County Cats was contacted by a homeowner who said he had 70 "American Curl" cats on his property that had been left behind by a breeder three years ago. On our first trip to the property in March, there were cats EVERYWHERE! We received four kittens, approximately 6 weeks old. Their foster home named them Wolfy (Wolverine), Wonder Woman, Iron Man and Batman.Â
We learned that "American Curl" is not a breed, but a genetic mutation. Not all of the cats and kittens we rescued had curled ears, but Wolfy sure did.
Morty's Story
Morty is another very special cat from this rescue project. We noticed on our first visit that he had a hernia the size of a baseball. We quickly made plans to get him to our veterinarian to see if the hernia could be repaired. On x-ray, our vet reported "His kangaroo pouch is providing refuge for his spleen, half of his colon, and most of his small intestines." With 60 years of combined experience, none of the three vets had performed surgery on a hernia this big. Dr. K., from Galaxy Cats Veterinary Center, was up to the task and successfully tucked Morty's organs into his belly and closed him up. What a difference! All along, Morty purred and "made biscuits." We called him "Morty the Muffin Maker." Once his hernia was repaired it was time to tackle his infected ears. American Curl cats have small ear canals and often need regular cleaning and maintenance. It took several rounds of cleaning and meds before Morty was finally ready for adoption to his forever home.
